Prairie Restoration Project

In 2003, our club was honored with the stewardship of a rare prairie remnant located at the Northwest corner of 167th Street and Central Avenue in Oak Forest, IL.  Our club meets at least one Saturday, each month, in the Yankee Woods parking lot just North of that intersection.  Students identify all plant and animal species, remove endless invasive species including buckthorn, green ash, hawthorne and various shrubs, BY HAND!!
Due to the tremendous dedication of our student members and faculty advisors, in the spring of 2006 our club was recoginzed by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and a permanent sign was placed at the site and a plaque was placed at the entrance of Oak Forest High School.
We welcome helping hands from the public.  See our bulletin board for work dates or contact on of our student officers or advisors at any of posted email addresses.
